Goodbye 2019 – Looking at the year ahead

January 1, 2020 by admin Leave a Comment

Goodbye 2019

Hey guys! It’s been a while hasn’t it. Today I’m sharing where I’ve been and what’s happening to the blog in the new year.

So let’s start from the beginning, in May 2018 I bought the domain name for danielleathome.com, and in July I launched. I was loving every second of this creative outlet. But soon the pressure of the instagram followers, like count and Pinterest pins got to me. See I’d never intended to grow to a certain amount or make this a business. My little corner of the internet that was meant as a fun hobby to fill my time while the hubby was working crazy hours turned into something I felt I had to do. This might sound crazy since my social following is so tiny, but it is true. It wasn’t that fun anymore.

I continued to truck along through the beginning of 2019. When we bought our house my focus switched to my “real life” instead of my online one. I couldn’t keep up with the demand of our move and the self inflicted blogging pressure. So I took my first break. The months of August and September I went radio silent and I soaked in the Summer heat. But then I missed it. Sharing recipes or my thoughts and life happenings with my internet friends, so I came back. I spent the fall sharing my favourite flavours of the season, the fire was re ignited.

But once again my plans to keep sharing were derailed. This fall was hard on my family, my mom lost both her parents very close together. Combine that with my work demands and I was on track to burn out. I wanted to focus on what was making me the most happy. That was taking things slow and spending time with my loved ones. Although I had fun plans for yummy holiday content and at times I wanted to share I knew being present at home was the best thing for me. Because of these choices I had a fantastic and calming Christmas season. It was so good for the soul.

Of course I didn’t forget about my blog! The wheels in my head were turning thing about what I want this space to be, what I can give to this space and my why for having this blog.

So what does this mean for the blog going forward? It means you can expect 1 post per week to hit the blog, maybe more but never less. Here’s the catch, it won’t all be recipes. Yes, I’m branching out more since I have a desire to share so much more then just food with you all. I’m hopeful that this change will bring me back to the reasons this blog exists, to bring joy to all of us!

Cheers to the end of 2019 and best wishes for a happy and healthy new year! I’ll be seeing you again soon.

Fall Bucket List: 2019

October 2, 2019 by admin Leave a Comment

Fall is my favourite season, I love the food, the crisp weather and best of all Thanksgiving! The weather is normally pretty dry and mild in October so I love to get out and really savour the season. Since we moved in the spring we are in a new area and discovering all it has to offer this season. It’s been so fun to explore! So now I’m dreaming up all of the fun activities we should fill our weekends with before the season ends!

Today I’m rounding up our fall 2019 bucket list!

  1. Decorate the front porch.
  2. Go apple picking.
  3. Visit the pumpkin patch.
  4. Bake pumpkin cookies.
  5. Watch Hocus Pocus, as many times as possible!
  6. Find the BEST cider donuts in the city.
  7. DIY bat decorations for Halloween.
  8. Fall picnic in the park.
  9. Roast Pumpkin seeds.
  10. Buy a new cozy sweater!

We’re starting on this list this weekend and the first few items I’ll be ticking off is finding a great orchard to go apple picking, decorating the front porch with mums and a new wreath, and last but not least buying a new sweater! If you want to follow along I’ll be using the hashtag #DHfallbucketlist to track our progress, so save the image below to follow along with me! And if you need even more inspiration check out this post! Happy FALL!

Friday Five

July 19, 2019 by admin Leave a Comment

Happy Friday friends! Another week another Friday five! Here’s what I’m loving this week!

No.1

Mornings on the Deck – I am loving being outside on our back deck. Especially in the morning. Slow mornings with a big cup of coffee looking out at the forest in our backyard. When we bought this house I underestimated how much I would love looking out at the trees every day. It really makes me feel like I’m in my own little oasis nowhere near civilization. Can’t wait to see it covered in snow this winter!

Our New Sectional – Our sectional for our main floor came last week and I love it! I never thought it would be so comfortable. Now I’m on the hunt for some good pillows and throw blankets. Can’t wait to show you our fully decorated living room once it’s done!

No. 3

Command Products – Organizing this place has been tricky but exciting! Hubby has a big problem with holes in the wall… since he knows he will be the one filling and painting them! I never knew how many amazing products command made! Like sponge caddys!? What? So far we’ve got broom hooks, hooks and lots of caddys galore!

Camping Recipes – We’re heading out for our first tent camping trip (we were RV kids) soon and I’m hunting for easy camping recipes, this blog has been a great resource! Do ya’ll want to me to share what we end up eating next weekend?

No. 5

Yeti Hydro Flask – As you all know I love Yeti products… it’s been well documented in my gift guides. I just recently bought a hydro flask to take to work with me and I’m loving it! Great for long hot summer days!

That’s it guys! I hope you all have an amazing weekend with friends and family xo

The live Fully Podcast by Mallory Ervin – Ok guys I’m loving this podcast. It truly is inspiring and I love Mallory’s why behind this podcast. The whole goal is for you to live you best and most fulfilling positive life. It’s beautiful how she wants to help people and she’s just so fun to listen to.

No. 3

Berry Margaritas – Ok guys have you seen this post yet? I’m loving these margs and I don’t see an end in sight. They will be the summer drink of choice in my house all summer long!

No. 4

via

Stranger Things Season 3 – Ok were about half though the season and I am on pins and needles waiting to see what happens. Also I’m loving the Starcourt Mall!! So nostalgic! I don’t want to give away any spoilers here so I won’t say much!

No.5

Our House! – Yep it’s still my favourite! It might make the Friday five every week for a while.. just kidding. But I’m falling more and more in love with it every day! Read all about it in this post.

That’s it for this week! I hope you all have a great weekend!

Valentine’s Day Gift Guide: Him & Her

February 6, 2019 by Danielle Leave a Comment

Valentine’s Day is one of my favourite holidays! I think it’s such a fun day to show your loved one’s that you love them. Single or in a relationship there are lots of fun ways to celebrate.

Coming on Saturday is my recipe for heart shaped linzer cookies which are a super fun sweet treat to enjoy with loved ones on Valentine’s Day. For a sneak peak check out my instagram! I’ll also be sharing how we are celebrating Valentine’s Day and how we have celebrated in the past.

Today I am sharing his and hers gift guides. These are some great ideas for your husband, wife, galentine, best buddy or even your parents! My husband doesn’t read my blog, but I might have to send him the link to this post!

Men's Vday Gift Guide

one / two / three / four / five / six

I’m really obsessed with the men’s gift guide and a lot of the gifts are unisex and just simply awesome!

  1. Watches are always a great gift and I love Daniel Wellington watches because they are super classic.
  2. Beats Headphones, don’t we all want beats head phones? We were late adapters to wireless headphones and seriously I don’t know why we waited so long! These over the hear Beats Headphones would be such a great upgrade!
  3. Yeti mugs are so great! We use travel mugs daily and I love Yeti because they are dishwasher safe!! Say what?! Yep you heard me! Men are practical so providing them with upgrades to items they use daily is always a safe bet.
  4. We have one Bose bluetooth speaker that we move all over the house to listen to music. The sound quality is fantastic and we love it!
  5. We take coffee very seriously in my house! We have a drip coffee maker, Nespresso and until recently a french press. Our french press broke recently and we’ve been looking for a good manual coffee maker to replace it. I think this pour over brew would be a great option!
  6. I have been a fan of Herschel Supply Co. for years now. I carried their backpacks in college. They are also Canadian which makes my heart happy! I think this bag it the perfect size for a weekend getaway and we need more of those!

Woman's Vday Gift Guide

one / two / three / four / five / six

I love that the gifts for the ladies are sweet, fun and romantic. Perfect for the special lady in your life or your Galentine!

  1. Victoria Secret PJ’s are my absolute favourite! They are worth every penny in my opinion. I have the pant version of this set and I’m obsessed! The adorable short version is on my wish list.
  2. I have a serious sweet tooth and gummy candies are my weakness! Of course Sugarfina takes candy to the next level and I can’t get enough (send me all the champagne bears!)
  3. Diptyque are one of my favourite candles to give and receive as gifts. There is something so elegant and special about them. They also go with everyone’s decor. I think the Baies scent is perfect for Valentine’s day.
  4. Silk pillow cases are fantastic for your skin and your hair. Since switching to silk I noticed a huge difference in my hair. I struggle with serious fizz and this has decreased the frizz so much! What I love about the Slip pillowcases is that they are machine washable! No one have time to dry clean a pillow case!! I also think receiving a silk item from your significant other on Valentines day is very romantic!
  5. I love the whole Barefoot Dreams line and I know I’m not the only one! It’s crazy how soft their products are. I have a cardigan from their line and I can’t get enough. So their blankets are on my wish list and is such a great indulgent gift to receive.
  6. I love to diffuse essential oils so a diffuser is a great gift that’s not only practical but provides ambiance to your space making it a romantic and special gift.

There you have it gift guides for the special men and woman in your life!
